About Coming Home

Twenty-six-year-old, Shaynaya’s world is shattered at the death of her beloved mother. In spite of career achievements, there’s a vacuum in her heart caused by the questions raised by her mother’s sudden death which remain unanswered. In her quest for peace and the need to hold her family together, she leaves her job in the Middle East and moves to India; journeying across geographical planes and inner landscapes to finally reach ‘home’.
Coming Home is a heartwarming story about self-discovery, relationships, loss, love, destiny, the choices we make, and how these choices eventually lead to what we are destined for.

The Creation of Coming Home
‘Coming Home’ was originally published in March 2023. The story was well received by readers (check out the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads). With the help of Kaye Lynne Booth of Wordcraft Press, I’m making the book available in a second edition on Barnes and Noble and other digital platforms. I want to thank Kaye for reworking the book cover and doing everything necessary to make the book available to readers who have no access to Amazon.
‘Coming Home’ is a story of self-discovery, family and love. It’s about moving ahead one step at a time even when you don’t have all the answers. Shaynaya, the main protagonist of the story is a twenty-six-year-old who loses her mother to cancer. Her world comes crumbling down and she is left to piece it together for the sake of her dad, her sister, herself and most importantly, for her mother, for whom family meant everything.
I lost my mother in 2006, much like the protagonist. When I began writing the book in December 2020, I had healed from the wound of losing my mother. However, losing my dad in November 2020 reopened old wounds. Writing this book helped me escape and surround myself with characters, who I could breathe life into as and when I pleased. Although, it’s fiction, the journey of sorrow and healing are based on my experience. The purpose of writing this book was to share with people all that I learnt along the way. One reader, Willow Willers, who read the book dedicated James Blunt’s song, ‘Halfway’ to the book. She said that was her takeaway from the story; I think that perfectly describes the essence of the book. Another reader said, ‘the book is all love.’ It’s not just a love story, but a story about life and love plays a part in it.
The story is set in India. So, if you’re someone who enjoys reading about other cultures, then this book will give you a taste of the South of India. As the characters travel to Kerala, Mumbai, Bangalore, Dubai you get a peek into these cities as the story unfolds.
